I feel like we've been talking a lot about Story lately - be it at work, on the podcast, or playing D&D. And I think this short film does a great job of reminding me that you should never let the details (even though they may be important) get in the way of a good story.

Creative Spark - David Seidler

I stumbled into this web series, Academy Originals. Aside from being well produced webisodes, they are also great sources of information for anyone who is interested in process. I wanted to highlight this video because David Seidler talks about the challenges of being a creative professional and the sort of "blank page syndrome" that we've all probably experienced once or twice in our lifetimes. I specifically like his method of using rewriting as a way to simply get started; beginning with a sentence and reworking it until you loose yourself in the process.

43,000 Feet

This piece reminded me a little bit of a radio program; something like This American Life, Wiretap, or The Moth. While there are some really-really-awesome visuals, the sound has a life of it's own. There are also some fun animations and sharp writing. This piece has something for everyone.

Ultimate Story Checklist

From what I understand The Ultimate Story Checklist has been a work in progress for a while; it's currently on version 4. I heard about it on The Narrative Breakdown. It's longer than I thought it'd be but I can see why people are finding it useful. It also doesn't help that his blog looks like the computer game Zork.

NECRONOMICA

A great "you can't judge a book by it's cover" story. Turns out metal guys are just like you and me. The writing is great and the performances are fun. This is the most "evil" short I've seen in a while...

I love all the little things (the upside down cross in their apartment, the way they drink from straws so they don't mess up their black metal make up).
