Shattered

This made me think of what Deloitte would have been with rock climbing as the metaphor. This short is pretty amazing, the footage is out of control, and the story is mesmerizing.
Here are a few behind the scenes looks into the making of this. I love the quote "filmmaking is about collaboration". I think we should push to continue to tell stories similar to this to illustrate an idea in a really powerful way.

Techincolor CineStyle - Canon 7D

Trying out the CineStyle picture style from Technicolor for Canon EOS DSLRs. Both camera setting are identical, save for the picture style of course. I dig the dynamic range; the only thing I notice was the increase in noise... The music is a fun little diddy borrowed from an episode of Radiolab.

They employed a choir to audibly illustrate the rainbow and priase the mantis shrimp, an organism with nearly five times the color sensitive cones as that of humans... So I thought it was kind of apt... you know because of the whole color and dynamic range thing... maybe a little silly. Nevertheless, props to Radiolab.

Fragments of Iceland

There is no doubt in my mind that I will visit Iceland before I die. I have seen several videos depicting the strange and beautiful landscape for some time now. I feel like this video is quite different. Its ease in sifting through hundreds of strikingly beautiful shots without lingering or being too precious on any one in particular. Heavy stylization with baths of light leaks coupled with expert match cutting. Music by The Cinematic Orchestra makes it a personal perfect storm. The pacing and sense of serenity. Enjoy.

The Watchmaker

Nothing ground-breaking here. Just a cool story about a watchmaker. It is sort of the quintessential "DSLR-shot-mini-documentary", but I like that it's about a guy who's making something by hand.

Nikon - WHY

Whilst trying to find some bitchin' examples of extreme mountain biking for an upcoming shoot I found this little gem featuring the Nikon D4. I really like these camera demos because they are simply justified and unabashed eye candy. There's also an obligatory behind-the-scenes article.

So yesterday, because of some nasty fog, Chris and I found ourselves in the lovely town of Port Hope with nothing to do. So instead of sitting around moping we attempted to find everything that Port Hope had to offer, and I think we did a damn good job.

Back in college I interned at this photography studio for a couple of months. This was back when DSLRs were just starting to become popular for filming. I would talk to them about video and codecs while they would teach me about lenses and exposure and stuff. I just recently hung out with one of the dudes that still works there and they are increasingly interested in doing more video work.
