I found a great article that dives into the making of the TD opening title sequence. It includes stills from the original pitch, techniques, and how the art and writing came together. It's also a solid example of how to "show your work".

True Detective intro

I think this is a nice, interesting advancement of what has become a really obvious treatment...the whole film-burn-y, image layering thing. The image collages are content-driven and foreshadow the connections that are made during the murder investigations.
