Verizon - Mighty Small Series

While looking for current Verizon commercials I found this nice little series of branded entertainment documentaries. Mighty Small highlights small business owners and their passion for their chosen path - then in supplemental (deeper dive) films Verizon swoops in and gives them tech gadgets that could help their business.

The Adobe Illustrator Story

Just in case you ever wondered. Honestly, I had no idea that Illustrator is nearly 27 years old - I think the first time I even launched Illustrator was my freshman or sophomore year of college...

Canon C100 Autofocus Upgrade - Vote Now

Firstly, I should mention that Canon has finally replaced my nostalgic love for the Panasonic DVX/HVX series with the Cinema EOS series. I feel like with all the recent and frequent updates to the C100, it's going to be around for a while. Finally, a legacy camera that reviles the Panasonic DVX100-A cult following from 8 years ago. Who wants to buy a new camera every year anyway?

So as you may or may not have heard, Canon recently introduced another update to the C100 - Full blown auto focus. This is something that video cameras have simply never been able to get right in the past but after you watch this review from Philip Bloom, Canon is getting closer and closer.

So the real question is, at $500 a pop, who thinks this is a good investment for us? Vote with your comments.

Future of Storytelling

I'm going to ride Jackie's coat tails on this one. It started with her last post on "Authentic Storytelling + Connecting the Physical & Digital Worlds" (which has no tags... Jackie). There's a whole channel of videos like this.

Here are some of my favorite so far. The first one will look very familiar to both Micah and Brian...

This one is great because I'm always interested in the way that pop culture and entertainment have an influence on science and vise versa...

Sunday Geekout

Sometimes I like to spend my copious bachelor time looking up stuff that satisfies my analytical brain. Now, this might be right up there with the hardcore science learning thing posted earlier, but in a few minutes I was able to understand a whole system through a simple relatable situation guided by an even keeled patient walk through. When I felt lost the speaker knew it. By the end it all made sense. Say what you wil about the esthetic, but I'm curious if through this style of explanation if you were able to understand this. Also, do you feel that this line of explanation has a place for us? Possibly adding validity to an RSA example. Really just curious - please comment. And of course I cant embed this.... follow the links if you please :) Part 1 Part II

Canon Cinema EOS - Branded Entertainment

There are a bunch of these branded entertainment films on Canon's site but here are the few that were showcased at the content theater at NAB. Each film highlights a specific Cinema EOS camera (C100, C300, C500 and the 1DC). I'm also including the Behind the scenes for each film. I think one idea is that could take a similar approach and talk about our experiences with each camera in addition to filming something...

Philip Bloom - On the Topic of Everything

This is a podcast interview with Philip Bloom. There's a very insightful dialogue around 27:00 where Philip talks about the obsession with technology that can ultimately distract filmakers from the other important components of cinematography. He also talks about the concept of having the right tools for the right job.

Very cool thirty minutes.

Speed Booster

What if I told you that we could take our Canon 24-70mm f2.8 lens, reduce the crop factor and even make it sharper and faster (like f2.0). Well, Metabones has done it. It's aptly named the Speed Booster. I don't fully understand it's wizardry yet but here's the full article.
