Don't Be Dumb

"Stuff You Should Know" is one of my favorite podcasts. Every week they simply talk about a single subject for about an hour. While Josh does not always sound like this, I can't stop laughing at the super dry delivery, the way he just keeps creeping all over the frame, and his inability to sit in a chair the same way twice.

This Is Radio

"This Is Radio" is a short web series that just started a few months ago. Not only does it feature some of my favorite people, it's very well produced, it features music from Podington Bear, and it deals with ideas that are not just limited to radio - things like storytelling, editing, and craft. This series just oozes the kind of stuff I love and these are just a few episodes that I found particularly inspiring. I'm looking forward to many more of these...

Radiolab Live - Apocalyptical FULL SHOW

Radiolab is one of my favorite radio programs. And every once in a while they take the show on the road and do a live broadcast. Typically when I think of a live radio broadcast, I think of a panel of people behind microphones. But Radiolab's live shows are known to be pretty unique; there are giant puppets, live music and great visuals.

Ultimate Story Checklist

From what I understand The Ultimate Story Checklist has been a work in progress for a while; it's currently on version 4. I heard about it on The Narrative Breakdown. It's longer than I thought it'd be but I can see why people are finding it useful. It also doesn't help that his blog looks like the computer game Zork.

The Future is Blue

On one of the podcasts that I listen to regularly, they were talking about the user interfaces in science fiction films and discovered that the future is mostly blue. One of the reasons blue could be a dominant color in the future is because it does not occur in nature very often; it's an "unnatural" color.

This is their empirical data taken from screenshots of user interfaces in sci-fi films over the last four decades. The red 1991 sample is thanks to Terminator.

Philip Bloom - On the Topic of Everything

This is a podcast interview with Philip Bloom. There's a very insightful dialogue around 27:00 where Philip talks about the obsession with technology that can ultimately distract filmakers from the other important components of cinematography. He also talks about the concept of having the right tools for the right job.
