Dutch Movie on TV

Patateje Oorlog was a film that popped up on my hotel TV. The animations were the immediate draw , then the cinematography. It seems to be the story of a girl who's father goes off to be a field doctor. Her imagination keeps her company while her dad is gone.

Fight!

There are so many things to love about this animation from Marc James Roels. The music, the composition, and the style of the characters. But above all else I love how they made such a light and soft material look as though it carries massive weight. The shot of the two characters falling through air makes my eyes light up.

Dinosaur Office

I was checking out some other work from the people responsible for Micro Mayhem in Chris' last post (great post by the way)...

I'm having trouble putting why I like this so much into words...

Micro Mayhem!

Probably one of the best stop motion pieces I have seen and this one comes from Stoopid Buddy Stoodios.  I love how inventive they were in the process.  The dust kick ups, the sparks flying, the cop car that hangs in the air for just a few extra moments.  Kept me entertained the whole way through, and I'm sure you'll love the process shots at the end.

Oedipus with Vegatables

Josh, Chris and I were discussing stop motion and were reminded of this classic, weird, and expertly crafted tale. To quote Chris, "This is neat-o and Dave totally Rules"

McDonalds 'McBites' - Little World

If we're seriously going to do a lot more of this RSA animate style for Hampton then I think we need to up the ante a little bit. I think this video does a awesome job of taking a similar idea and just making it a little better. I love the addition of interaction with real life objects. I definitely think something like this is possible too. If you look closely at their animation it's actually pretty rudimentary and they even copy a few characters.

Dockville Trailer 2011

If I ever had the time to make a MeanMug & Slim movie I would DEFINITELY do it in this style.  I love that it's not only mixing live action and animation, but that it's on a miniature scale.  I think this helps to blend the two styles together because the tiny props they had to create are a little "cartoony" in nature so it all looks as if it's from the same world.  Make sure to check out all the work from Robert Loebel, his stuff is amazing.

Jacopo Rosati

Jacopo Rosati has some amazing work on his website, but recently he has been playing around with felt and I must say that I am in love with the results.  The final works have such a vibrant, playful look to them and the felt adds just enough depth and texture to make the art look as if it's popping off the page.  I didn't come across any stop motion videos on his site, so if you are reading this Jacopo, DO SOME STOP MOTION ANIMATION WITH THIS STUFF!  It would literally be perfect for it. That's all I have to say about that. Enjoy.

Super Mario Beads 3

We're all familiar with the late night haul of doing a stop motion animation. Well these guys have done a 5 minute long Mario tribute....and it's their 3rd one.  It's not super flashy or perfectly smooth, but it's got a lot of soul to it.  I'm also posting their behind the scenes video because not only did I find it pretty amusing but also a little interesting as well (it's in another language so just hit the cc button on youtube for closed captioning).  What I actually found interesting is that they use no tripods or nice lights.  In the interview they said this was to give it a home made feel and inspire others to do it, but they also go on to say it may just be because they're lazy. Either way it's a fun piece to watch.

Star Wars Uncut: Scene 321

Here is my scene. I was inspired by the various shapes and character of the beer bottles in the aisle at the Anderson's. Particularly Leia.

My set was fairy simple.

I had fun doing this and I'm glad I did. I might take a crack at another one.
