From Paper to Screen

FROM PAPER TO SCREEN from Thibault de Fournas on Vimeo.

Interesting usage of kinetic type, the exploding letters and clean usage are pretty cool. The music shifts from paper to film are certainly dramatic and emphasize the difference well. The differing titles also remind a lot of the opening to Kroll Show... which is awesome always

Short Films Without Dialogue

I was checking out my Vimeo feed this morning and, coincidentally, I stumbled upon two very different pieces that do not feature any dialogue. These two examples made me think of how many times we've been asked to create something that transcends language - in other words, something that wouldn't require translations or subtitling.

Gunship - Fly For Your Life

Very interesting animation style, hard to nail down how it was achieved, really dig the pacing and edit of this.

What is Branding?

As we look ahead to the future of our group's work we seek to embark on journeys that are campaigns as opposed to one-offs. We help build out the brand's internal voice. Its a powerful and sometimes daunting responsibility - the importance of which can be sometimes undervalued.

This video was conceived, written and narrated by award-winning designer, branding specialist and Fast Company blogger David Brier to distill branding down to its basics answering that basic question "What is branding?" (from http://www.RisingAboveTheNoise.com )

Written plainly with equally minimalistic motion graphics, this video unveils the magic, the spark and the simplicity that is branding in its most fundamental form.

Nuance - Marc-Antoine Locatelli

Josh and I had a conversation about green screen heavy movies recently and talked about how actors have to act to surroundings that are missing. Like the director is calling out "good... good... now look out there is a spooky ghost behind you!!!" and the actor is expected to show real fear.

In this example the choreography was designed on the faith of the tracker/animator. Without which this would have been very very silly. This looks like it would have been a blast to edit and reminds me of Chris Cunningham's particular style of cutting to disjointed electronic music.

Land - Sound Design

I really enjoyed the immersive sound design in this  piece.

Inside Man - Animations

Here are two animation reels featuring work that's appeared on CNN's Inside Man. There's usually one or two of these animations per episode and they're just a really fun way to fast track a lot of information so the audience can get back to the story with proper context. Ultimately, I just really dig CNN's commitment to not just journalism but entertainment as well.

The Dot and the Line: A Romance in Lower Mathematics

This animation got brought up by Adam Hastings in a meeting yesterday. It was odd because I remember this animation from back when I would watch Looney Tunes, and now it's found its way back into my life. Anyways, thought I'd share it. Plus this rock and roll squiggle is everything I wanna be.

Modified Powerglove as Animation Tool

Animator on Robot Chicken and Pes use this unconventional, yet highly practical tool. They also use Dragon Frame.

Inside Out Trailer 2 UK - Official Disney Pixar | HD

This idea has so much potential for hilarity.  Also, I wonder if we could do a similar treatment to illustrate behaviors in people - a whole new way to show the old 'good to great' scenarios.

HSE Little Things

I like this little series, the simplicity of the art style and the variation of simple cinematic shots. Still hope to do something close to this for a future project...Maybe not something so corporate, but something along the lines of a Hospice, where the idea isn't necessarily about selling something or teaching something.

Arup - Future of Mobility

Really inspired by this most recent animation from Ross Phillips for Arup. It's a long piece and it really kept me entertained throughout the whole thing, and to be fair it's almost like two pieces in one. I love how the first half of the animation is setting up the world we live in via the dialogue, but the animation isn't exactly 1 to 1 with the script. We are seeing a separate story that is enhancing the feeling of the dialogue, instead of just reiterating it. I also like how we then take that character and actually build him out more with the specific family stories. The transitions were seamless and the piece really felt alive.

Where's the pizza?

A combination of live-action and animation to help enhance the storytelling. Made me think of what we are doing with Hampton right now, although this one is really awesome. But I am starting to see this more and more.
