Geico's Unskippable Ads

Geico's new "Unskippable" ad campaign defies the Youtube 5 second skip...but the extended cuts are pretty funny too.

Dad Makes Goth Daughter Feel More At Home

This German home improvement ad quickly weaves together a nice little story without the use of dialog.

Memorex

Sourced from over forty hours of 80s commercials pulled from warped VHS tapes, Memorex is a deep exploration of nostalgia and the fading cultural values of an era of excess. It's a re-contextualization of ads - cultural detritus, the lowest of the low - into something altogether more profound, humorous, and at times, even beautiful.

Cannonball - Orangina

The color and crispness of this is nice, but really, Is this the greatest video ever made? No. But, can you imagine selling this idea to a client without them vomiting violently all over the table? Someday soon I would like to be able to successfully pitch an idea that solves the issue, even if its a creative leap and a bit 'out there'.

2012 Vimeo Awards - Advertising

So I think this nearly five minute long commercial is pretty brilliant but I can't help but point out that it's a perfect example of how much recent advertising is riding on coattails of the Tim and Eric directorial approach; the ludicrous and in our face approach. Don't get me wrong, it's very funny. I laughed out loud. I just wonder what the next breakthrough will be...

The Ridebook - The Prohibition Tour

Brain, you'll probably dig this. And Dave too I suppose; after all you're making that cover band. I was trying too hard not to post any staff picks from Vimeo but they're all so good. I kinda like the out-of-the-can-look of the video (going back to our dynamic range conversations lately.) Here is some more info too.

NAB Show 2012 - Ogilvy Examples

Here are three video examples shown by Ogilvy Entertainment's Doug Scott. Though I believe everyone who was in Vegas at the time attended the session, for those who didn't, it basically outlines some pretty awesome initiatives that companies are doing that revolve around documentary films and "selling ideas" rather than "selling products". After the presentation, I think we all agreed that these are examples we could bring to the table as it relates to our vale proposition and the kind of work we'd like to be doing.

I tried really hard to dig up the video that Doug had actually shown at the conference but couldn't find it anywhere; it set up the purpose of the series much better than I could. Essentially, Ogilvy, DuPont and, i believe, the BBC created a collection of mini documentaries that showcase DuPont and their commitment scientific collaboration, corporate responsibility and humanity in general. The one lin that I took away from the video I couldn't find was "It's about selling an idea or feeling, not a product". For those in the audience, back me up if I'm missing some here... you can find the rest of the videos here.

Again, another example of outreach that advertises a concept that goes beyond product placement. This one especially demonstrates a social media aspect as well.

Lastly, Red Bull going from energy drink to full-on production company...

And one more...

Sunshine

Here's a great mini doc. I think it's pretty good for a couple of reasons; it speaks to the idea that that we're all artist trying to find avenues to do our art (for better or worse). It also touches on the industry, client-relationship-dynamics, travel and the sobering effects of globalization (there's a lot that fifteen minutes). Lastly, I found it to be very well done, technically speaking, and the Benet's "character" as this grumpy cynic. The video was posted on Motionographer but has since been pulled and made private, dumb, but I was able to find it else where... and it won't embed...

Help

Fun little video I found. Total paying in the surreal hand made field. I thought the writing was particularly great (funny).
