World Press Photo - 2017 Digital Storytelling Contest

While in Amsterdam, I had an opportunity to check out the World Press Photo exhibit. Founded in 1955, World Press Photo is an independent, non-profit organization based in Amsterdam, Netherlands and is known for holding an annual press photography contest. In addition to the photos, there was also the Digital Storytelling Contest.

“For the seventh annual Digital Storytelling Contest (previously known as the Multimedia Contest), the international jury selected 12 winning productions in four categories. This year, 282 productions were submitted to the contest: 135 Short Form, 54 Long Form, 62 Immersive Storytelling and 31 Innovative Storytelling.”

Here's the winners that I was able to catch during the screening (I even noticed a few familiar content creators like the New York Times and Great Big Story...

It's That Time of Year Again

HD Video Pro Magazine - Emerging Pro Contest

One of the things I picked up in Vegas was a copy of HD Video Pro Magazine. In it was a call for filmmaker and photographers to submit either a set of five photos or one motion short. If you win, you get a Red Epic and a slew of Zeiss glass.

I think we ought to consider it. Not just because the of the awesome gear but also to keep pushing ourselves creatively outside the office space.

Any good ideas that somebody would like to shoot?

Animade Full Secs

Yet another thing to submit to. This one comes from the guys at Animade. They've made this system of animations consisting of a 2 second intro, 1 full second of animation, and a 2 second outro. Some are pretty brilliant, some are ok. Below is one of my favorites, but you can check them all out at Animade's channel here.

The Past Re-imagined As The Future

Came upon a wonderful little video contest today that involves two of my favorite things: audio tracks from Free Music Archive and video from the Prelinger Archives. Maybe it's like Dave said and I am a glutton for punishment, but I think this will be far less stressful than Star Wars. I don't see the point in explaining much further when someone has taken the time to create an awesome video that does so.  However, for more information check out their site here.
