Ride

It rained on the way to Ohio Bike Week in Sandusky, Ohio. When we arrived, there were no bikes.
But I made a video anyway.

Emergency C

God, this is painful! The very first project, from my very first video class. A young man meets with his girl for a secret rendezvous‎, but fate deals a cruel hand.

Inside Jaws - A Filmumentary

Love this concept. Everything you ever wanted to know about jaws without having to buy each edition of the film. Oh, and it's super long...

Act II: Solidifying my Passion

This is the intro video to a DVD I made my senior year in high school. I was going to go to college for civil engineering, but this project my teacher bestowed on me cemented my true passion. The entire DVD was 1 hour long and included highlights from each game, player profiles, and 2 or 3 different vignettes.

Here's a little story about the development:
I wasn't even in the video class my senior year because I had to take another class. My teacher suggested I make a short video for the video yearbook about the football team, since it was the first time they'd made it to state playoffs in school history. Once I made a player profiles video I knew it was part of a bigger production. This was a Friday and the DVD were to be published on Monday. I told him about my vision of an entire DVD with a soundtrack and so he let me take home one of the computers that had Premiere Pro CS3, keyboard and mouse included. From when I got home until Monday morning before school, I sat in front of the computer and created what was the most organic video production I've ever done with 3 hours total sleep in 3 days. I just kept developing video after video, I couldn't stop. Anyway it was a huge hit at school, we had over $1000 in DVD sales and the rest is history. I worked so hard on something and it payed off.
When I was 20 I wanted to develop a more elaborate and well-planned documentary of the 2010 football team. I filmed every game and shot almost everything I needed, but I closed up shop on the editing floor before anything got made. In 2011 made a trailer, but that was all.

I Made it in the Toledo Blade

My friend, Peter Boyer, who is the chairman of this event, invited me to take pictures at the Toledo Zoo's largest charity event, Zoo to To. The society editor of the Blade, Barbara Hendel, wanted a picture of Peter, his wife, and the executive director of the zoo, but her staffed photographer already left. And I was there to catch the slack!

Brent's Reviews - World War Z

Coming to you from my library, I review the zombie-thriller World War Z, now in theaters.

I'm caving.

A friend's Pete & Pete episode and a brief history of my high school (accompanied lovingly by our fight song).

I'll show you mine if you show me yours - For Sale

A blast from the past. One of the first movies I've ever created with my friends. It was for a high school English class. I made a film in the spirit Alfred Hitchcock in addition to my essay about his life and times.

And as a bonus, there's a trailer for a film we never created. The First, a thriller-horror about a friend and his deranged older brother that lives in the basement. I know, riveting...

Koelsch Double Feature

You can skip our obnoxiously long 17 second intro on this first one

We were all kids once

So I was inspired by brent posting his old work and it made me take a look and see if any of my old stuff from high school was ever uploaded to "The Youtube".

And unfortunately for all of you, some of it was. My friend Luke went through and digitized some of our old stuff of the VHS's and uploaded it back in 07.

This is something me and some friends made back in high school.... be warned.

The Legen Continues...

In spirit of Anchorman 2 being released this year, I thought I'd share the first video I made that solidified the start of my career. I'm also in the video and a freshman in HS. Watch it and don't EVER bring it up.

TED Radio Hour - Framing the Story (Extended Interview with Andrew Stanton)

Just in case you wanted more Andrew Stanton from my last post, here it is. Andrew was definitely the highlight of the last TED Talk. I especially took away the concept of 2+2...

OFFF Titles

I've been catching these OFFF title sequences off and on again for a few years. I thought this one was a really fun way to introduce the participants in the conference.

First Taste

Non verbal cues and face reading make for some of my favorite pieces. I love the pacing and sense of anticipation the high speed gives - you can almost see the kids taste buds firing sensory pulses to their brains.

Apple

Okay, okay... I can all see you rolling your eyes now... but you all knew this was coming! It was only a matter of time. :) If you haven't checked out the latest Apple TV spots or the video that opened up the Keynote Monday... you have to check them out!

First one is... *drumroll*... Apple Intention. This opened up the keynote on Monday. I love the simplicity of it and how the animations represent the words so perfectly.

Second one is... *drumroll #2*... Our Signature. Very simply they get at the core of what they do and yet it conveys so much meaning.  It kind of reminded me of Owners Access.  I wonder if maybe we're getting too caught up in a cool or different way to tell the story and maybe there's a way to tell a compelling story very simply.

Animated Photos

I was looking for examples for OA that used photos that are slightly animated to create a sense of movement and I came across this.

WWF PARALLAX SEQUENCE from Make Productions on Vimeo.

Beer, ferns and metaphors.

Nothing spectacular about the animation here, but I found the simple metaphor worked and could be used as an example for animated metaphorical storytelling.

And it's about beer.

Its Air Guitar Season

This Saturday I'm headed to Chicago's Gingerman bar to capture the regional USAir Guitar contest. This piece created by Matt Cornelison AKA Romeo Dance Cheetah exemplifies air guitar's awesomeness. This is also a continuation of a piece Chad, Brian and Matt and I shot a while back
