Lisa's Birthday

Like Brian said, "I like big cakes and I cannot lie." In honor of Lisa turning 24 I made a special Mean Mug & Slim Birthday episode.
Also here is a polaroid of us setting off the fire alarm in our apartment.

StudioAKA - LOVESPORT

Grant Orchard and studioAKA are putting out some amazing animated shorts in response to the Olympics. I love the simple style and the dark/weird humor that is unexpectedly added throughout. The other great thing is that they have 4 videos out with another 12 still to come. You can see them all when they come out at StudioAKA's site here.

Sony FS700

So these guys at Neumann Films tested out the FS700 and it's capabilities for slo-mo. I found out from a quick search on Philip Bloom's blog that this thing shoots 1080p and 240fps and at lower resolutions 480fps and 960fps. I am still hoping we can all rent something like this and make a video exactly like this one day. We gotta "test" new equipment too right? We should spoil ourselves and do something like this to celebrate the good year.

Oh and by the way, these guys made a behind the scenes blog post along with allowing download of their RAW footage. The blog post has a lot of great videos, talks about the camera setting, and just shows some of the fun they had. Little teaser - they got the helicopter for free, if you read you'll see why.

Worf gets DENIED again and again

I was inspired by Brian's post that was inspired by Josh's.

No one ever listens to Worf. He gets denied, rejected, scoffed at, laughed at and he keeps his poise through it all

Mr. Wizard

This is not Mr. Wizard remixed, but I WAS inspired by Josh's posts.

Julia Pott creates a storybook for adults while bringing us to the place where imagination runs wild in this emotive animated short.

DC SHOES: ULTIMATE URBAN PLAYGROUND; SAN FRANCISCO

A little kid's matchbox car dream scenario

El Sicaro

This documentary looks intense.

SQU - Animation Sequence Project

I managed to get something in for the Animation Sequence Project despite being pretty busy. After seeing many entries I thought were phenomenal I just had to try and get something in. Honestly one of the hardest times I have ever had coming up with an idea. I think I went through about 5 ideas before I landed on this one. Here are some of the others that I found awesome.

Retro Commercial of the Week - Wilkins Coffee

In response to Chris' post. Jim Henson is also responsible for a series of commercials for Wilkins Coffee. It's hilarious because some of these are pretty dark.

Color Me Rad 5k

Last weekend I ran the Color Me Rad 5k in Cincinnati with Lisa. Essentially the same thing as the Color Run. It wasn't technically a 5k since it was only about 2.2 miles, but it was still a lot of fun. Shot entirely on a the Go Pros. Music is The Spectrum Song.

Retro Commercial of the Week - Linit Fabric Finish

Spectrum

What originally started out as a post for one video became a post about an entire organization. I love when that happens. Spectrum does amazing work on educating and helping people with autism, and the animations they have commissioned are off the charts. I am seriously envious of the work. There are a lot of things to like in this first piece that introduces Spectrum's business. This animation comes to us from Art & Graft. I especially love the introduction and the section about their staff, it definitely brought a light-hearted humor to the whole piece. Spectrum then commissioned Art & Graft to do a series as a study of the individuals within their care to raise awareness of autism. I really love these informational animation pieces that seem to be coming out more and more. It's an engaging way to tell a story and this is just another example. This one was animated by Mikey Please.

Revenge of the Great Camera Shoot Out

For those who haven't seen it yet. Very interesting, very inspirational. Here's a link to Part II when you get to it... For what it's wroth my top three choices in the "A to B comparison bit" were B, C and A in that order... Prepare to be surprised...

It was bring inappropriate food to work day today, and Chad Sprinkles Dankert took the cake with this one.

Jackie demonstrates the new teleprompter

I think Jackie should pursue a career as a TV host.

OZO

Great animation. I dig the style and the storytelling with no dialogue. The sound design and character interactions are great.

Buster Keaton genius

I love how the parameter of no sound gave birth to this overt style of storytelling. Buster Keaton's athleticism and character development abilities amaze me.

Front Page of Advertising Served

A piece that I did for USA Today and Cannes back in 09' just made it to the third row front page of advertising served. I guess thats cool. Brian's iPad case also made iPad case of the year.

2012 Vimeo Awards - Narrative

Chris had posted the finalist, Ham Sandwich, for the Narrative category. I think I like it better than the winner...

Flabongo Nation

My older brother's friends have recently formed a cover band of sorts under the name of Flabongo Nation. If you don't know what a flabongo is there is a shot of a guy doing one at 1:32.  Anyways it was just a relaxing way to spend the 3rd of July.

Skrillex music video

I like parts of this but am not a fan of how it all came together, for some reason. I did think it was interesting enough for the Stew.
