NoNo

The NoNo (No shit taken, No fucks given) moped crew is hosting a rally and needed a video. We fueled up, rode off, bought fireworks, broke down, repaired stuff, broke down, repaired stuff and then rode around and had fun times in a train yard. Overall a great day. Live fast ride slow

More Buck - Against Dumb

I just love the gratuitous use of the word dumb. And the animation is good as always...

Seeking Superman

So now that the festival is over, I figured now would be a fine time to showcase our efforts on 'The Stew'

Do something cool every day

Birthday Brew

Brewing last Saturday...

"No one puts hands on top like that"

Just griping, but I love the always helpful feedback from clients. Apparently none of them have ever cupped water, held something small, or given something to someone.

DOVE Real Beauty Sketches Part 2

DAVE DON'T READ: Jurassic Park

I just watched Jurassic Park 3D, I mentioned it to Dave and he started humming the theme song and it got stuck in my head. Ah! Listen to it, it will be in your head too!

Memorex

Sourced from over forty hours of 80s commercials pulled from warped VHS tapes, Memorex is a deep exploration of nostalgia and the fading cultural values of an era of excess. It's a re-contextualization of ads - cultural detritus, the lowest of the low - into something altogether more profound, humorous, and at times, even beautiful.

Adobe - CMO Explainer

I must say that I love these creative animations that use Rube Goldberg machines to tell their story.  It's a fun and clever way to take the viewer on a journey.  This particular piece was done by VeracityColab to introducing Adobe's marketplace for CMOs.  They explained that the piece had to be done in a week so I'm curious to know if they used Newton to speed up their animation process, because the animation looks quite smooth.

Dove Real Beauty Sketches

Just a really great idea, shot really well. Really shows the value of honest filming combined with a cool idea. I love how they created "an experience" and then captured it to get the point across. It makes me think we could do something similar.

HD Video Pro Magazine - Emerging Pro Contest

One of the things I picked up in Vegas was a copy of HD Video Pro Magazine. In it was a call for filmmaker and photographers to submit either a set of five photos or one motion short. If you win, you get a Red Epic and a slew of Zeiss glass.

Official rules here.

I think we ought to consider it. Not just because the of the awesome gear but also to keep pushing ourselves creatively outside the office space.

Any good ideas that somebody would like to shoot?

1927 - The Animals and Children took to the Streets

Mary saw this last week and was over the moon about how cool it was. The integration of projected video onto a very simple theatre setup making for a a very different theatre experience.

Google Wallet

Another kickass piece for Google, this time made by Wolfberg. I still get a kick out of how they use real stuff, and this application of showing these real different wallets that reveal the new ways they see the Google Wallet working is slick. They could have animated this whole thing, but it wouldn't have been the same.

Google Wallet - sorry, embedding prohibited.

Illusions (part one)

Really intriguing concept from Animal on the subject of Illusions.  Now I have always had an affection toward the weird and unexplained, so a video on illusions was right up my alley to begin with.  The first thing that stood out to me about this piece was the voice over.  It fits so well.  I love how it sounds like it's from archival footage.  I also enjoy the mixture of found and animated footage.  However, what I found best about this piece is that it could have ended half way through and achieved what I thought it was going to, but then it goes into a much deeper and unexpected place in the second half that I honestly got a few chills.  Well written and I'm looking forward to the following 7 films.

Name That Movie

My upcoming Photography I class assignment is to take a photograph that describes a movie title. Thoughts?

Vikings - Opening Title Sequence

Having read the description bellow, I was left in a fevered state of anticipation. I'm sure you can see why. Rama Allen also has under his belt True Blood and HBO Boxing. Everything he touches turns to awesome.

Ritual. Supernature. Memory. Visions. Salt. Gold. Smoke. Sex. Metal. Blood. Gods. Fire. Death. Honor. Family... and the Sea.To develop the sequence we sought the haunting, ancient, fearsome, visceral part of us.The Viking Part.It began with music. Fever Ray's "If I Had A Heart" was our first move, and it became the soundtrack to our development, our pitch, and eventually the finished work. The sequence was inspired by a folktale found in The Sagas. That of the nine sisters, the goddesses of the waves, that would pluck Viking explorers from their ships and pull them to a sensual, dark, watery grave. The Vikings' relationship with death was built on honor, inevitability, sex, and the constant presence of gods pulsing through every grain of sand and swell of the ocean. We follow the separation of a Viking from the living. He slips into darkness amongst ornaments of his life. Weaponry, gold and bone. His fading memory flickers throughout before he is consumed by one of the Sisters. He is left a shell below the waves before we learn he is not alone, but one of many sinking below the creeping surge of Viking raiders above. A fiery, massive raid assaults a darkened coast line.

The Presets "Ghosts"

Nicole introduced me to the term 'data mashing'. The process is basically messing with code within the video file itself and seeing what wacky things happen. I have seen it best used when there is a lasting image from the modified clip and the shifting pixels of the new video distort and rip it apart.... I guess its just one of those things you have to see to understand.

Cannonball - Orangina

The color and crispness of this is nice, but really, Is this the greatest video ever made? No. But, can you imagine selling this idea to a client without them vomiting violently all over the table? Someday soon I would like to be able to successfully pitch an idea that solves the issue, even if its a creative leap and a bit 'out there'.
